Renewable energy consultancy SgurrEnergy has provided technical support for the commissioning of a new 60 MW wind farm in Utah, including a detailed technology review of what SgurrEnergy says is the first commercial application of the new GE 2X wind turbine.

SgurrEnergy, a Wood Group business, provided engineering services and technical due diligence for developer sPower on the Latigo Wind Farm. The $126 million wind farm is situated on 3,600 acres of private land along the foothills of the Abajo Mountains, northwest of Monticello.

The scope of SgurrEnergy’s work included contracting support, review of the project’s civil and electrical design, construction monitoring, and technical advice in support of substantial completion. sPower has secured a 20-year power purchase agreement with Northwest utility company PacifiCorp.

Construction of the 27 GE 2.3 MW wind turbines was completed in December 2015, and the wind farm began generating energy in January.

The 60 MW wind farm is expected to produce enough energy annually to power up to 14,000 homes.
