The third annual British Renewable Energy Awards (BREA), presented by the Renewable Energy Association, recently recognized the achievements of members of the U.K. renewable energy industry.
Department store Marks and Spencer received the BREA Pioneer Award for leading the way in the promotion of renewable technologies and sustainable company ethics. Renewable Energy Systems was honored with the Advocate Award, and ENERGOS took the Developer Award for the soon-to-be-completed green-energy-from-waste plant on the Isle of Wight.
Richard Soper of Worcester Bosch was named Individual Champion of 2008 for his achievement and personal commitment to the promotion and practical demonstration of renewable energy technologies.
Natural Power Consultants Ltd. accepted the Innovator Award for its ZephIR laser anemometer, which provides wind speed measurement up to 200 meters from ground level without the need for a mast.
‘We are delighted to accept this award, which is a real high point for all the team, who has worked relentlessly for the past five years on commercializing the technology that is now providing real value to the wind industry,’ says Ian Locker, senior manager at Natural Power. ‘We continue to innovate within Natural Power, and the industry will soon see exciting new products from us, including a floating version of ZephIR for offshore wind farm applications.’
The Installer Award was presented to Riomay for its large solar thermal development. Kirkburton Parish Council received the Region Award for the implementation of a policy to promote microgeneration and energy conservation, and Good Energy received the Company Award for the provision of green energy to consumers and the company's long-term commitment to providing solutions to climate change.
