A wind turbine and trades training facility has opened at St. Lawrence College in Kingston, Ontario. Construction began last year on the new facility for students enrolled in the colleges' wind turbine technician, brick and stone masonry, industrial electrician and millwright programs.
Funding of C$1.6 million was provided by the Ontario government to help St. Lawrence College train more workers to meet the growing number of jobs in the next generation of green industries.
The new facility provides space for approximately 80 apprentices. The building features an exterior solar wall and rooftop solar panels that create energy and is a learning lab for future students. A full-size wind turbine nacelle has been installed inside to give students hands-on learning.
