Moventas, a Finland-based supplier of wind turbine gears, plans to expand its assembly line in Portland, Ore., in order to serve growing customer demand in the U.S. market.

Initial capacity expansion for the Portland plant will be 200 MW, which translates to approximately 100 to 150 midsize wind turbine gears per year. The company will also continue with preparations for building up even larger capacity in the Midwest area, according to Jukka Jaamaa, Moventas CEO and president.

Moventas' wind turbine gear manufacturing is concentrated in Jyvaskyla, Finland, where key components of wind turbine gears will continue to be manufactured.

In North America, Moventas currently has gear-service facilities in South Carolina, Texas and Ontario.
