Boston-based developer First Wind will host a ground breaking ceremony this week to celebrate the beginning of construction of the 102 MW expansion of the company's Milford Wind project. As part of the event, local officials and members of the community will join company officials to partake in a ceremonial signing of a wind turbine blade on site.
Speakers are expected to include Bryan Sherwood, mayor of Milford, Utah, Daron Smith, Millard County Commission chairman, and David Hastings, First Wind's vice president of development.
Located in Millard and Beaver Counties, the construction associated with the installation of the 68 additional 1.5 MW GE turbines will be a source of revenue and new jobs to the surrounding area.
First Wind has wind projects in the Northeast, the West and in Hawaii, with the capacity to generate up to 504 MW of power and projects under construction with the capacity to generate up to an additional 232 MW, the company says.
