The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is presenting the 10th annual Green Power Leadership Awards that honor 18 EPA Green Power Partners for their achievements in using green power, helping to grow the nation's voluntary green power market and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The 18 award winners are using a total of more than 5 billion kWh of green power annually, equivalent to the annual carbon-dioxide emissions of more than 700,000 vehicles.
‘By using green power, these winners are leading the way toward cleaner air and a healthier environment while helping advance the market for renewable energy,’ says Gina McCarthy, assistant administrator for the EPA's office of air and radiation.
Awards are being presented in four categories at the Renewable Energy Markets Conference in Portland, Ore. The two Green Power Partners of the Year are Kohl's Department Stores, Motorola, TD Bank and Whole Foods Market.
In a new category this year, the Green Power Communities of the Year are Park City, Utah, and Corvallis, Ore. The city of San Francisco and Phoenix Press Inc., located in New Haven, Conn., won for on-site generation.
The Green Power Purchasing winners were BD, BNY Mellon, Carnegie Mellon University, Chicago Public Schools, Harris Bank, the Indianapolis Zoo, Intel Corp., Pearson, Port of Portland and the state of Illinois.
