The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) is now accepting applications from programs that train wind turbine service technicians. Upon training completion, the technicians would qualify for a new AWEA seal of approval.
The AWEA seal of approval program assesses whether educational and training institutions with technician programs are teaching the skills that an entry-level service technician needs, as identified by experts among AWEA's members.
AWEA says its endorsement will give educational institutions the chance to gain recognition for quality programs, while supporting their efforts to provide students with the skills they need.
Applications for the fall 2010 AWEA seal of approval must be received by Dec. 15.
The program certification is valid for two years, although AWEA says programs will be required to check in with AWEA after one year to verify membership and receive the certification for the following calendar year.
