ZF Services Launches 2.5 MW Test Bench

ZF Services has completed installation of the 2.5 MW test bench at its Vernon Hills, Ill.-based wind service center. The project, which began construction in September 2012, is the result of a $1.6 million grant from the State of Illinois.

According to ZF, the test bench will be able to test more than 200 gearboxes annually. The recently completed test bench and redesigned facility now allows the company to offer an even wider range of services, notes the company.

The facility has a dedicated 20-person wind service team for servicing customer needs, including field technicians for on-site up-tower repairs. With more than 7,000 ZF gearboxes installed in North American, ZF designed the wind service facility with the intent to service ZF gearboxes and other multi-brand products.

The Vernon Hills facility is one of ZF's eight wind service locations worldwide, with six centers having load-testing capabilities.
