RPM Access has announced that the 36 MW Hawkeye Wind Farm has officially begun commercial operation.
Among the dignitaries on hand for the project's ribbon-cutting ceremony was Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, the author of the first wind energy production tax credit, signed into law in 1992.
Located in Iowa's Fayette County, the Hawkeye project consists of 15 Nordex 2.5 MW turbines, manufactured at Nordex's Jonesboro, Ark., facility. Construction, which is being performed by Minneapolis-based Mortenson Construction, began last November.
Cedar Rapids, Iowa-based Central Iowa Power Cooperative will purchase the power generated by the project under a 25-year power purchase agreement.
