Wind Power Opponents Protest To Ontario Government

Despite scientific evidence that wind turbines pose no health risk, hundreds of wind power opponents protested to the Ontario government on Tuesday, claiming adverse health, economic and community impacts, the Canadian Press reports.

The province already has a moratorium on offshore wind power development, but some opponents and lawmakers are calling for more. Last month, Private Member Lisa Thompson, Progressive Conservative-Huron-Bruce, introduced a motion that called for a moratorium on all wind energy development in Ontario.

Ontario currently has a total of 1.97 GW of installed wind energy capacity, according to the Canadian Wind Energy Association.
