Turbine manufacturer Vestas has confirmed that it has been appointed as the supplier for the Eneco offshore wind project in the North Sea, following the awarding of funding from the Netherlands' remaining Sustainable Energy Production scheme's Round 2 program.
The Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation issued the funding that allows Eneco to begin its 43-turbine wind farm off the Dutch coast. The project had been conceived as a 129 MW wind farm using Vestas' V112-3MW turbines. However, Eneco said its aim is to replace seven turbines with 6 MW generators, bringing its nameplate capacity to 150 MW.
Construction is slated to begin at the end of 2013, with full operation expected by 2014.
