Vestas has received an order for 33 units of the V90-3.0 MW wind turbine. Vestas will supply and commission the turbines, which will be installed at the Central Plains Wind Farm, a 99 MW project in Wichita County, Kansas. RES Americas Inc., a wind development company and subsidiary of U.K.'s Renewable Energy Systems Ltd., is developing and constructing the Central Plains Wind Farm.

The wind power plant will be owned and operated by Westar Energy Inc. and forms part of the utility's wind energy program, which will be the largest of its kind in Kansas to date, according to Vestas.

‘Kansas has clearly demonstrated its commitment to wind power as a clean, reliable and local form of power generation,’ says Jens Soby, president of Vestas Americas. ‘We have very positive expectations for the future for wind power in Kansas, and it is a great pleasure for us to partner with RES Americas and Westar Energy and in this way participate in the development of the state's wind resources.’

The order also comprises a five-year service and maintenance agreement. Delivery and commissioning of the 33 wind turbines is scheduled for the second half of 2008.
