Vestas reports that construction is underway at Al Tafilah, Jordan's first utility-scale wind farm.Â

According to Vestas, civil work has begun at the 117 MW project, adding that 38 wind turbines will be delivered over the coming months. The first turbines will begin to produce electricity during the first quarter of 2015, and the wind power plant will be fully operational by August 2015.

The wind farm will be connected directly to the National Electric Power Co. grid, providing almost 400 GWh of electricity per year and produce electricity at half the cost of Jordanian conventional power, Vestas notes.
