A community wind farm being built in the towns of Milton and Georgia, Vt., will be operational by December, according to the project's developer.

The 10 MW Georgia Mountain Community Wind project consists of four 2.5 MW turbines and is being developed by the Harrison Family, a family of local business leaders, and David Blittersdorf, president and CEO of AllEarth Renewables Inc.

The project is sited on the Harrison Family's maple-sugar operation lands between Milton and Georgia, Vt. The electricity produced by the project will go to the City of Burlington (Vermont) Electric Department (BED) via a long-term power purchase agreement.

The wind farm will use Goldwind turbines with U.S.-made blades and towers. The project has received local financing from Merchants Bank.
