TXU Wholesale, a subsidiary of TXU Corp., has increased its portfolio of wind power contracts with a 209 MW agreement with Airtricity, a renewable energy company based in Dublin, Ireland.
Under the terms of the five-year contract, Airtricity will provide wind power generated from its Roscoe Wind Farm, which is currently under construction about 45 miles southwest of Abilene, Texas. According to the companies, the Roscoe Wind Farm will stretch into three western Texas counties and will cover nearly 30,000 acres of land when it is commissioned. The project, which is scheduled for completion by the end of the year, will produce enough power annually for 60,000 homes, the companies add.
The contract represents TXU Wholesale's second agreement with Airtricity and will boost TXU's renewable energy portfolio to 914 MW. TXU Wholesale's prior contract with Airtricity is for 125 MW from the company's recently opened Forest Creek Wind Farm, located 25 miles southeast of Big Spring, Texas.
