The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) says it added more than 1,100 MW of installed capacity from seven wind power sites this year. The TVA, a corporation owned by the U.S. government, recently added 165 MWs from the Cimarron wind farm in Gray County, Kan., and, 200 MW from the California Ridge Wind Energy Center in Champaign County, Ill., to its power grid. TVA says it now has 10 contracts with nine wind farms delivering more than 1,500 MW of energy.
Given its active role in wind energy this year, the American Wind Energy Association recently named TVA as Utility of the Year.
