TransAlta Plans To Open Western U.S. Headquarters

Canadian renewable energy provider TransAlta Corp. says it is opening a new western U.S. headquarters in Olympia, Wash.

The company says its western U.S. push follows an agreement reached with the state of Washington earlier this year to phase out its coal-fired power plant near Centralia in 2025. TransAlta is working with customers in the Pacific Northwest to put in place long-term power contracts for the existing Centralia coal plant as part of the state's plan to transition to cleaner sources of energy and ensure electric grid stability.

TransAlta owns and operates several wind farms in Ontario, Quebec and Alberta.
