Emerson Process Management will provide control and optimization technology for EDF Renewable Energy's 110 MW Catalina Solar and 140 MW Pacific Wind projects, located in Kern County, Calif.
According to Emerson, the Ovation system will play a key role in adjusting electrical output as directed by the California Independent System Operator – a task that is becoming more important as renewable energy sources provide an increasing share of electricity to the grid.
For example, if the system operator needs to curtail the output to maintain grid stability, the Ovation system will calculate the most economical way to achieve the new megawatt target, notes Emerson.
