Acciona Energy and Gov. John Hoeven, R-N.D., officially dedicated the wind developer's Tatanka Wind Farm. The 180 MW Tatanka Wind Farm, located in Dickey and McIntosh counties, N.D., and McPherson County, S.D., is the largest wind farm in the two states.
Speakers at the dedication event expressed hope that the current national energy policy debates will result in continued support for renewable energy investment and improved transmission capacities across the U.S., allowing Tatanka's full wind energy potential to be realized with further expansion.
‘Acciona and North and South Dakota have shown what strong communities and socially responsible companies can do together in creating a clean energy platform for job growth, economic development and environmental sustainability,’ says Peter Duprey, CEO of Acciona Energy N.A. ‘The Tatanka Wind Farm and other renewable energy projects around the country are limited only by our country's aging energy transmission infrastructure. Transmission is the conduit to America's energy independence, and Acciona is leading a call to action regarding critical infrastructure initiative to upgrade America's energy grid.’
The Tatanka Wind Farm includes 59 wind turbines in South Dakota and 61 wind turbines in North Dakota. Electricity generated at the wind farm is sold into the Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator and delivered to homes in the parts of the upper Midwestern U.S. and Canada.
