Chattanooga, Tenn.-based Signal Wind Energy LLC is collaborating with BP Wind Energy and Westar Energy on the Flat Ridge Wind Energy Project in Barber County, Kan. Signal Wind is the balance of plant (BOP) contractor on this 100 MW wind energy project and is responsible for the design, engineering and construction of all roads and turbine foundations, and the electric collection system. In addition, Signal Wind is erecting all of the wind turbines.

The 5,000-acre project site consists of 40 2.5 MW Clipper C96 wind turbines mounted on 80-meter towers. The main lifting cranes used to erect the turbines on this project are among the largest in the world and are capable of lifting loads of over 800 tons to a height of over 400 feet.

‘The Flat Ridge project is a great example of like-minded companies pulling together to make a positive difference by building sustainable wind energy projects,’ says Ben Fischer, Signal Wind president.
