Following completion of 593.4 MW of wind projects in Iowa in 2011, MidAmerican Energy Co. has awarded another large turbine supply contract to Siemens.
Siemens will supply a total of 176 SWT 2.3 108 turbines to three projects. The contract includes a five-year maintenance and warranty agreement.
According to Siemens, the Iowa-based projects include:
- Vienna, a 103.5 MW wind farm located in Vienna, Marshall and Tama counties,
- Eclipse, a 200.1 MW project located in Guthrie and Audubon counties, and
- Morning Light, a 101.2 MW wind project located in Adair County.
In 2010, Siemens received an order totaling 593.4 MW, its largest onshore order to date, from MidAmerican Energy for the Laurel, Rolling Hills and Pomeroy wind projects in Iowa.
The turbines will be produced in Siemens' factories in Fort Madison, Iowa, and Hutchinson, Kans., the company says.
