Siemens Extending German Community Wind Farm

Siemens has announced it will be supplying six of its SWT-3.6-120 offshore wind turbines to extend the community-owned Norderhof wind farm, an onshore project located in the North Frisia region on the German North Sea coast.

According to Siemens, the 3.6 MW turbines will be erected in summer 2014 and raise the wind farm's capacity to 37.7 MW. Siemens may have designed the SWT-3.6-120 turbine for offshore wind farms, but the company says the project's coastal location will permit optimum energy yield.

The first section of the Norderhof wind farm went online in 2007 and utilizes seven of Siemens' SWT-2.3-93 wind turbine units. The extension is scheduled to go online in September 2014, and the contract also includes maintenance of the wind farm for a 20-year period.
