Shermco Industries Building Wind Energy Converter In Iowa

0

Shermco Industries says it plans to erect a 1.5 MW wind energy converter just north of New London, Iowa, for New London Municipal Utilities. The project will provide community wind energy for the city as well as southeast Iowa.

VENSYS, a German manufacturer, is providing the wind energy converter components, but the tower sections and blades are being manufactured in the U.S.

The 279-foot-tall VENSYS V82 wind turbine will generate power whenever the wind is blowing over six miles an hour. Wind power generated by the turbine will also annually offset nearly 3,000 tons of carbon emissions that would have been released into the environment by fossil-fuel generation facilities, according to Shermco.

Construction on the wind energy converter will begin Oct. 24.
