Senvion To Install 6.2M152 Prototype Offshore Wind Turbine

Senvion SE, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Suzlon Group, has started work in Germany to install the prototype of its new 6.2M152 offshore wind turbine.

The company is building access routes to the Langen-Neuenwalde location, 20 km north of Bremerhaven, and the 6.15 MW turbine is scheduled to begin operations at the end of October.

Senvion announced the 6.2M152 in November 2013, and the turbine is slated to enter commercial production in 2015. The company says the rotor star will have a diameter of 152 meters, increasing the swept area from its 126-meter predecessor by about 50%. Furthermore, Senvion says the energy yield will be increased by up to 20% at a wind speed of 9.5 m/s.

The prototype has already been sold to EWE ERNEUERBARE ENERGIEN GmbH and will be used commercially. EWE currently operates a 5 MW Senvion turbine in close proximity to the newly selected location.
