Sempra U.S. Gas & Power has acquired and will develop the 75 MW Broken Bow 2 wind farm, located in Custer County, Neb. The company has also executed an agreement to purchase 43 1.7-MW General Electric wind turbines for the project.

Construction is slated to begin in December, with commercial operation expected by late 2014. According to Sempra, the project will employ about 300 workers during peak construction. The wind farm's entire power output has been sold to the Nebraska Public Power District under a 25-year contract.

When Broken Bow 2 is completed, Sempra says it will have joint-venture projects totaling more than 1 GW of wind generating capacity. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
