Schwarzenegger Vetoes Renewable Energy Bills

0

Last month, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, R-Calif., said he would veto two renewable energy bills that were passed by the California Legislature. The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the governor has followed through on the threat.

The bills would increase the state's renewable portfolio standard (RPS) to 33% by 2020. The governor supports the aggressive RPS and even signed an executive order in September establishing a 33% standard.

However, Schwarzenegger says he disapproves of a provision in the Legislature's bill that would limit the amount of renewable power that utilities could buy from other states. The new rules, established by the California Air Resources Board, do not limit the amount of power that California can buy from out-of-state utilities.
