Penascal Wind Project Dedicated In Texas

0

Iberdrola Renewables' Penascal Wind Power Project was dedicated with a ceremony in Kenedy County, Texas, along the Gulf Coast. The wind farm is a model for responsible development, with protections for migratory birds and minimal impact on a historic ranch teeming with wildlife, according to the company.

‘The coastal wind that powers the Penascal project is especially valuable,’ says Barry Smitherman, chairman of the Public Utility Commission of Texas. ‘It blows during the late afternoon, when electricity is needed most for air conditioning during the hottest hours of the day.’

Penascal is made up of 84 Mitsubishi wind turbines that produce 202 MW of renewable energy. The power will be delivered to customers of CPS Energy of San Antonio and the South Texas Energy Cooperative. Both CPS Energy and the South Texas Energy Cooperative have 15-year agreements to purchase the output.
