Community wind developer OwnEnergy has entered into a strategic partnership with the National Farmers Union Service Association (NFUSA), a wholly owned subsidiary of the National Farmers Union. The partners announced plans to develop a 20 MW wind energy project in Otter Tail County, Minn., called the Rothsay Wind Energy project.
‘Minnesota was the birthplace of community wind and one of the states where we see the greatest opportunity,’ says Jacob Susman, OwnEnergy's CEO.
The project will soon enter the Midwest Independent Transmission System Operator's definitive planning phase. OwnEnergy says it will use Tier 1 wind turbines to ensure financing of the project.
The project footprint includes property from six landowners, and is expected to require minimal permitting in addition to the state required Public Utility Commission permit, according to the company.
