NorthWestern Energy Gives Green Light To Montana Wind Project

NorthWestern Corp. (d.b.a. NorthWestern Energy) has told Compass Wind to move forward with construction on the 40 MW Spion Kop Wind Project, which will be built near the central Montana community of Geyser.

In mid-February, the Montana Public Service Commission approved placement of the $86.1 million project into the company's regulated rate base. Both the energy and associated renewable energy credits will help NorthWestern meet its 15% by 2015 mandate required by Montana's renewable portfolio standard.

The wind farm will feature 25 1.6 MW GE wind turbines. Construction is set to begin later this spring, and the project is due to be completed by the end of the year.
