Nordex Wins Order At Swedish Wind Farm Tied To Google

Turbine manufacturer Nordex says developer O2 has purchased 24 of its N117/3000 turbines to power the 72 MW Maevaara wind farm, located in northern Sweden near the Finland border.

Tech giant Google announced it is buying the output of the wind farm to run its local data center.

According to Nordex, the order is the first large-scale project for the N117/3000, which was launched in February. The turbines are to be set up on tubular steel towers with a hub height of 120 meters in commercial timberland.

Due to the long periods of frost and frigid temperatures, Nordex will deliver cold-climate versions of the turbine and fit them with an anti-icing system. Delivery of the turbines is scheduled for summer 2014, the company notes.
