Nordex has completed the 80 MW Kouga Wind Farm, located in the Eastern Cape of South Africa.
According to Nordex, the wind farm consists of 32 Nordex N90/2500 turbines situated on 80-meter towers. The wind farm was one of the first projects selected in round one of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producers Procurement Program.
The project's success underlines South Africa's increasing competitiveness in the global renewable energy industry. The Oysterbay area in the Eastern Cape is an ideal location for a wind farm. The average wind speed is over 9 m/s, and the wind is very constant throughout the day, dropping slightly in the evening.
To ensure the project is socially accepted, Nordex says it procured labor locally and donates to local schools.
