Citing opportunities in many San Francisco neighborhoods for small- and medium-scale wind energy, Mayor Gavin Newsom, D-San Francisco, signed an executive directive to encourage development of wind generation in the city.
Under this directive, the Department of Building Inspection and the city's planning department will expedite permitting and minimize costs for the installation of residential, commercial and municipal wind generation turbines in the city. Also, all city departments will advance wind power generation by incorporating wind turbines into the design of existing and new city facilities whenever and wherever possible, according to the mayor's office.
