New Hampshire Electric Cooperative (NHEC) has joined 25x'25, a nationwide coalition committed to the goal of deriving 25% of America's energy from renewable resources by 2025.
At present, approximately 5% of the electricity NHEC purchases for use by its members is generated using renewable resources, the company says. NHEC has committed to growing the amount of renewables used to meet its members' electric energy needs.
‘We will continue to rely on energy from New England's traditional mix of generation resources while seeking opportunities to procure energy from newer, more efficient, environmentally friendly generators,’ says Fred Anderson, NHEC's president and chief executive officer. ‘Because NHEC fully supports the principles underlying the 25x'25 initiative, we will be investing over the next two decades in renewable power sources and energy efficiency efforts that are sustainable.’
