Vancouver, B.C.-headquartered NaiKun Wind Group Inc. has obtained a Section 11 order from the BC Environmental Assessment Office (EAO). According to NaiKun, this order, which defines the terms and procedures for conducting the required environmental assessment process, represents a significant step forward in the development of a 1,750 MW offshore wind project.
NaiKun has also filed an updated project description and Terms of Reference with the EAO. The revisions include the addition of the HaidaLink concept to the project scope, updated transmission route options and confirmation of a construction start date in 2009, with an expected commercial operation date in 2010.
The HaidaLink proposal, jointly developed with the Haida Nation and NaiKun, will complete interconnection between Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands) and the mainland electricity grid, says NaiKun. Under the direction of the EAO, NaiKun is undertaking an additional public comment period to allow comment on the revised Terms of Reference.
