Mohawk Fine Papers Inc., based in Cohoes, N.Y., has begun offsetting 100% of the annual electricity consumption across all of its operations in New York and Ohio with the purchase of 100 million kWh of renewable energy certificates (REC).

With this purchase, the company is now the largest buyer of wind power in the U.S. paper industry, Mohawk adds. In 2003, Mohawk became the first U.S. paper mill to use wind-generated electricity to manufacture paper.
