MHI Vestas Offshore Wind has received an order for 31 V164-8.0 MW turbines for Northland Power Inc.’s Deutsche Bucht (DeBu) project.

The 252 MW DeBu offshore wind farm, Northland’s third offshore wind project, is located 77 kilometers from its other German project, Nordsee One.

MHI Vestas Offshore Wind received the firm and unconditional order last Friday, when Northland announced that the EUR 1.3 billion project had reached financial close.

“We are delighted to see this landmark project reach financial close,” comments Jens Tommerup, CEO of MHI Vestas Offshore Wind. “The order affirms the strength of the V164-8.0 MW as a very competitive turbine for the German market, where distance from the coast and deeper waters demands a larger and more powerful machine. We very much look forward to our partnership with Northland in providing clean energy to Germany.”

The contract also includes a long-term, full-scope service package. With this order, MHI Vestas Offshore Wind has announced deals for more than 700 MW of V164-8.0 MW turbines in 2017 alone.
