Mass Megawatts Modifies MultiAxis Turbosystem

As a result of modifications to the design of its MultiAxis Turbosystem – a rectangular stacked blade wind energy converter – Worcester, Mass.-based Mass Megawatts Wind Power Inc. has achieved 23% cost reduction of its wind power plants.

According to Mass Megawatts representatives, engineering design modifications using augmenters and diffusers can be used more effectively with the improvements. The company says the use of air flow acceleration techniques and wind augmentation is not cost-effective normally for the horizontal axis wind power systems due to the long-term wear of turbulence related to diffuser airflow. In addition, horizontal wind systems are subject to a decrease in efficiency with turbulence related to the diffuser technology.
