Tokyo-based Marubeni Corp. has entered into an agreement with the Development Bank of Japan (DBJ) in which Marubeni will divest a part of its shares in the 172 MW Gunfleet Sands offshore wind farm to DBJ.
Marubeni has a 49.9% stake in Gunfleet Sands, located in the U.K. When the transaction is completed, Marubeni will have a 24.95% ownership share and DBJ a 24.95% share. DONG Energy will retain its majority ownership share and will continue to operate the wind farm.
Notably, Marubeni is also an investor in the Atlantic Wind Connection, an offshore wind transmission ‘backbone’ planned to span the Mid-Atlantic region from New Jersey and eventually extending to Virginia. That project is headed by independent transmission company Trans-Elect and developer Atlantic Grid Development and further backed by Google, Bregal Energy and Elia.
