Langdon Wind Energy Center Dedicated

Florida's FPL Energy LLC, Minnesota-based Otter Tail Power Co. and North Dakota-based Minnkota Power Co-op Inc., have dedicated FPL Energy's Langdon Wind Energy Center in Cavalier County, North Dakota.

‘Just a few years ago, North Dakota produced less than a megawatt of power from wind,’ says Gov. John Hoeven, R-N.D. ‘Through our EmpowerND initiative, we have forged strong partnerships with outstanding companies like FPL Energy, Otter Tail and Minnkota Power, as well as local communities. Today, we have built, or have in planning, nearly 1,800 MW of wind energy to serve North Dakota and the region.’

Initial operation of the 106 wind turbines at the wind farm began in December 2007. Otter Tail Power owns 27 of the Langdon Wind Energy Center's 106 turbines, or 40.5 MW. FPL Energy owns the remainder of the turbines and operates the entire wind farm. All of the remaining output from the facility is sold to Minnkota and Otter Tail Power under long-term contracts. FPL Energy plans to build an additional 40.5 MW this fall, bringing the total size of the project to 199.5 MW.
