Iowa Wind Farm Powers University’s Annual Relay Event

MidAmerican Energy recently donated renewable energy credits from its Pomeroy wind farm to offset 100% of the electricity used at a relay event by Des Moines, Iowa-based Drake University.

For the 108th annual Drake Relays, presented by Hy-Vee last week, organizers powered the four-day event with RECs from MidAmerican’s project, located in Pocahontas and Calhoun counties in Iowa.

For one week a year in April, the Drake Relays brings together Iowa’s high school athletes with collegiate and Olympic performers from around the world. This was the fourth-straight year MidAmerican partnered with Drake to deliver clean energy for the event.

“We’re proud to continue providing clean, renewable energy for our friends at the Drake Relays,” comments Bill Fehrman, president and CEO of MidAmerican Energy. “Also, our presence at the Drake Relays gives fans a chance to discuss all the ways wind energy can benefit them.”
