Hydro-Quebec has accepted Invenergy Wind Canada ULC's proposal to develop the 23 MW Le Plateau II wind project in Quebec in order to supply energy under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA).
Le Plateau II is a project collaboration between Invenergy and the Regie intermunicipale Gaspesie-Iles-de-la-Madeleine. Approval for Le Plateau II comes after a process that began in April 2009 with a call for tenders by Hydro-Quebec.
This will be Invenergy's second wind project in Quebec. The 138.6 MW Le Plateau Wind Energy Centre, which is scheduled for completion in 2011, also has a 20-year PPA with the utility.
A final contract with Hydro-Quebec for Le Plateau II is expected to be executed early next year and then be submitted for approval by the provincial energy regulator. Commercial operation of the project is scheduled to begin by December of 2013.
Both Le Plateau and Le Plateau II will be connected to a 315 kV power transmission line of the Hydro-Quebec TransEnergie transmission grid at a substation located near the power line. Le Plateau II will consist of 10 2.3 MW ENERCON E-70 wind turbine generators.
