Chicago-based Invenergy has filed a notice of intent with the Oregon Energy Facilities Siting Council for the construction of a 502 MW wind facility in Morrow County. The developer also owns the 72MW Willow Creek Wind project in Morrow and neighboring Gilliam counties.
The proposed facility, Heppner Wind Energy, would also require a new 230 kV transmission line that would run from the northern portion of the facility to a new substation near Stanfield.
‘The notice of intent we've filed for Heppner Wind marks the formal start of the thorough State of Oregon Energy Facilities Siting Council application review process that will include extensive stakeholder participation,’ Invenergy says.
The company notes that the proposed project is expected to generate approximately 100 jobs on-site during a six-month construction period, as well as approximately 25 to 30 permanent operations and maintenance jobs. In addition, the project is expected to generate several million dollars annually for the local economy in the form of property tax revenue, lease royalty payments to project landowners, and employee salaries.
