Iberdrola recently signed a EUR 200 million loan with the European Investment Bank (EIB) to finance research, development and innovation (R&D&I) projects in the company’s strategic business areas of networks and renewables.

The loan, which has a six-year maturity or repayment term, will support investments to upgrade smart grid efficiency, clean energy generation and electric mobility projects in Spain and the U.K.

Also, the EIB loan will support investment in projects on electric mobility and energy storage.

Activities under this agreement are part of Iberdrola’s 2015-2018 innovation plan, which, in 2015 alone, invested EUR 200 million in R&D&I – a 17% increase over the previous year.
