Gamesa Technology Corp. Inc. has announced it has rededicated its training and education center in Bristol, Pa., and renamed it the ‘Richard W. Hammill Professional Development Center’ to honor the late employee who spearheaded the development and launch of the company's U.S. corporate university program.

Hammill died in late September following a courageous battle with cancer. During his tenure with Gamesa, he served as vice president of services and played a pivotal role in the creation of the center, which opened in June 2010.

The center provides training for a wide range of students, from non-technical workers to senior-level field engineers. Professional training and development was of central importance to Hammill, who saw continuing education as a key component for enhancing the performance not only of his services team, but also for everyone at Gamesa, the company says.

Since its inauguration, more than 325 people have received training at the center, including 275 Gamesa employees and 50 from wind industry operations and maintenance service providers.

The center, operating jointly with Bucks County Community College through its Green Jobs Academy, was developed as part of the Gamesa Corporate University program. The college's Green Jobs Academy is a collaborative venture that includes public and private industry partners and provides both long- and short-term training programs geared toward workers looking for new skill sets in the green and sustainability industries.
