The Federation Quebecoise des Municipalites (FQM) and Innergex II Inc., a Quebec-based power producer, have formally created an entity aimed at helping municipalities and regional county municipalities in the development of their wind energy potential.
The new limited partnership, whose name is yet to be determined, is designed to allow municipalities interested in wind energy to share the risks while maximizing the benefits brought by community wind farms, the FQM and Innergex explain.
‘Over the past few years, the development of the wind energy sector was in some cases done quickly, generating confusion and uncertainty for municipalities,’ says Bernard Genereux, president of the FQM. ‘The FQM chose to become a partner with a serious and competent associate like Innergex in order to compensate for this situation and to create a new player that will help local administrations to maximize profits from the development of their territories' wind energy potential.’
Genereux adds that one focus of the partnership is to ensure that local communities will truly benefit from Hydro-Quebec Distribution's upcoming 250 MW call for tenders projects.
