FPL To Issue RFP

0

Florida Power & Light Co. (FPL) plans to issue a request for proposals (RFP) in April to identify and select new renewable generation sources that will help the company reduce emissions, enhance its fuel diversity and maintain system reliability while providing cost-effective purchased power to its customers.

Since FPL issued a similar RFP last year, a ruling by the Florida Public Service Commission concerning the Manatee landfill gas contract rendered previous bids unviable. The company now plans to seek new proposals that comply with the commission's ruling.

FPL will request proposals on firm generating capacity and energy. The company welcomes proposals that use a variety of renewable energy sources, including biomass, waste-to-energy, landfill gas, solar, geothermal, wind, ocean current, hydroelectric, waste heat from a commercial or industrial manufacturing process and hydrogen produced from sources other than fossil fuel. FPL prefers that the generating facilities providing renewable energy be located in Florida.

Deadline: June 9
