FoundOcean, a U.K.-based provider of grouting services for the offshore energy industry, says it has been contracted by Van Oord Offshore Wind Projects for the 258 MW Burbo Bank Extension project, located 8 km off the coast of the U.K.’s Liverpool Bay.

The DONG Energy wind farm is an extension to the existing and operational Burbo Bank offshore project and comprises a total of 32 MHI Vestas turbines at 8 MW each. DONG Energy recently completed an agreement to divest 50% of the project to Danish pension provider PKA and KIRKBI A/S, a parent company of the LEGO Group.

Van Oord Offshore Wind Projects was chosen to transport and install the project’s 32 monopiles and transition piece foundations, supply and install the scour protection, and provide the logistics between the fabrication ports in Germany, Denmark, the U.K. and the offshore wind farm.

In turn, FoundOcean will make the connection between the monopile and transition pieces by using MasterFlow 9500 from BASF. FoundOcean plans to carry out operations this summer, and the project is expected to be fully commissioned in the first half of 2017.
