Following County Vote, Iberdrola Moves Forward With 202 MW Baffin Wind Farm

Iberdrola Renewables says a recent local county vote has paved the way for the company to begin construction of its 202 MW Baffin Wind Farm, located in Kenedy County, Texas.

According to Iberdrola, the Kenedy County Commissioners have approved a tax abatement agreement for the project, which includes a fixed annual payment to the county over the 10-year term of the abatement. The company says the decision helps allow the project to move forward.

Baffin is slated to become the company's third wind power project in the complex, south of Baffin Bay, following the Penascal I and Penascal II projects. At 606 MW, Iberdrola says the combined complex will serve as its largest renewable energy facility in the world.

Iberdrola plans to install 101 Gamesa G97 wind turbines, each with a rated capacity of 2 MW, for the Baffin project. The company expects to begin construction during the fourth quarter of this year and reach commercial operation by the end of 2014.
