In a deal that creates the largest supplier of floating LiDAR technologies, AXYS Technologies has agreed to acquire Belgium-based FLiDAR NV.

The acquisition closed Aug. 31. Terms of the deal were not released.

AXYS has plans to expand the capabilities of the current FLiDAR office in Belgium to include AXYS' other offshore measurement offerings, such as metocean buoys, TRIAXYS wave buoys and AXYS-APS Geo-portal. AXYS will centralize its' complete European sales, service and engineering team from this new office, which aims to continue product development through research and development projects that involve customers, strategic suppliers and research centers.

FLiDAR was formed in 2011 as a joint venture between 3E and Offshore Wind Assistance to become provider of floating LiDAR offshore wind measurement technology.

In 2009, AXYS developed the WindSentinel floating LiDAR to meet the wind resource assessment needs of the offshore wind industry. The WindSentinel has since evolved into a dual-LiDAR platform, the company notes.
