The first of 108 Siemens 3.6 MW turbines has been installed at the West of Duddon Sands offshore wind farm, a 50/50 joint venture between DONG Energy and ScottishPower Renewables.

The remaining 107 turbines will be installed in the Irish Sea over the coming months, with the 389 MW wind farm expected to be fully completed in 2014.

"We're very pleased to see the first turbine installed at this project, and it is a testament to the great work of the entire West of Duddon Sands teams that this first installation has gone so smoothly," comments Henrik Scheinemann, vice president in DONG Energy's wind power business. Scheinemann notes that the offshore wind project will be DONG Energy's eighth wind farm in the U.K. and will help the company meet its goal of 6.5 GW of wind capacity by 2020.
